Wedding Planning
The burning question is how soon do you start
planning your wedding. The honest answer is, it is never too soon,
although some venues and suppliers only work up to two years ahead.
In some locations, demand outweighs supply and the popular
venues are always booked solid for the current year and in some
cases most of the following year. As soon as you have an idea of the
date, it is wise to start making appointments to view venues, check
their availability and start formulating an image of how you want
your wedding.
Other suppliers that need researching and
booking early are your photographer, videographer, transport and wedding
entertainment. With all four, they become a very important part of
your day, so essential that you have a good rapport and confidence
in their ability. When you have shortlisted from your research,
consider asking to meet with them. It is only when you are face to
face with someone that you will get a feeling about whether they are
the right choice for you.
For all suppliers, insist on a
contract detailing everything that has been agreed upon and signed
by both parties and a copy retained by yourself. Keep receipts for
all monies paid.
It is highly advisable to take out wedding
insurance which would cover a variety of unforeseen circumstances.
Most policies cover your deposits if a supplier closes down or fails
to supply, or if the venue cancels or goes into liquidation or your
circumstances change. Always read the policy schedule carefully for
your level of cover.
Other considerations are your all
important wedding clothes. Your wedding dress may need alterations
which could take several months. Sourcing and selecting could take
several months too!
For many suppliers, they are only able to
provide for one wedding on any particular date. There is nothing
worse than finding someone that fits the bill, then discover they
are already booked up for your date. By searching and selecting
early, you will have a far greater choice of suppliers.
